against the bombing
of civilians
Mosul, Aleppo, Raqqa, Donetsk, since 2016, these cities have become the symbol of the most total disregard for civilian life. Massive and disproportionate bombings, shelling in the heart of cities when explosive weapons are used in urban areas, 90% of the victims are civilians! Mortars, grad rockets, barrel bombs, the most destructive explosive weapons have no place in cities.
Today, as we enter the final months of negotiations on a political declaration by States to regulate the use of these weapons in urban areas, Canada is adopting a stance that could empty the agreement of its meaning and ambition.
THE INTERNATIONAL AGREEMENT AGAINST EXPLOSIVE WEAPONS IN URBAN AREAS IS NOW IN DANGER, LET'S REACT!
We expect Canada to make a strong commitment to :
Stopping the use of high-impact explosive weapons in populated areas
Publicly condemn bombings in urban areas
Helping victims and supporting demining of bombed areas
